Labor Day in China

In China, May 1 is a public holiday. Official holidays: May 1, 2 and 3. Due to the transfer of other weekends, the Chinese on May 1 may rest more.

The appearance of Labor Day in China can be attributed to 1918, when the revolutionary intelligentsia began to spread in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou and other places of leaflets with a message about this day. May 1, 1920 in Beijing, Shanghai and several other cities of the country were the first in the history of China demonstrations on Labor Day.

In December 1949, by the decision of the Government of the People’s Republic of China on May 1, it was declared an official holiday.

Today, for the Chinese, a few days off on May 1 is, above all, a good opportunity to relax and meet family and friends. Theaters hold festive shows, performances and concerts are held on various venues and on television.

People with families, friends, loved ones attend festive events, go to other cities to travel, go out into the countryside, go to the movies, go shopping or just meet with those who have not been seen for a long time.
